Samaritans: A Biblical People

September – December 2022

Christine Lefebvre Design provided design services for the 4,700-square-foot exhibition Samaritans: A Biblical People, currently on view at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, DC, through 2022. The exhibition provides “unprecedented access to the life, culture and history of the Samaritans, a 2,000-year-old community … [and] assembles, for the first time, the most important artifacts preserved in museums and libraries the world over to illuminate the history of the Samaritans. These include paintings, manuscripts, priceless books, photography, ritual objects and significant archaeological discoveries from Greece, Italy and Israel.” The design incorporated viewing areas for six documentary films created especially for the exhibition.

CLD’s services included exhibition and graphics concept development, space planning, floor plans and graphic elevations, exhibition graphic design, case layouts, paint specifications, production/fabrication specifications, and delivery of final production artwork. In addition to the multiple films on view (some via projection; others on monitors), other unique aspects of this project were the custom-designed sukkah recreation; the varied nature of the artifacts on view (ranging from 2-ton stones to contemporary artwork); and the notably large number of objects on view (including a large number of books), requiring more than 50 artifact cases.

and I appreciated how detailed and thoughtful they were.”
