Front-Page News: Man Walks on the Moon
July 2019 – October 2019
Christine Lefebvre Design was hired by Freedom Forum (the Newseum) to design their first “pop-up” exhibition, Front-Page News: Man Lands on the Moon, displayed concurrently at Washington Dulles International and Ronald Reagan Washington National airports. The exhibition commemorated the 50th anniversary of America’s historic moon landing with front page newspapers from the Newseum’s collection.
Design services included design concept development, exhibit organization, floor plans and elevations, graphic design, and final graphic production files. A video of the exhibit installation can be seen here.
GRAPHICS Large scale, vintage photographs of the moon’s surface (from the Apollo 11 mission) were given a subtle teal tint; used in combination with the vaguely retro font Stellar, they give the exhibit a subtle Space Age/“lost in space” aesthetic.
FLOOR PLANS The two exhibits presented the same content, but faced with different space restrictions and design challenges at each location, CLD designed different floor plans. Both plans evoked the shape of a crescent moon.
