Written In Knots

Christine Lefebvre Design provided publication design for Written In Knots: Undeciphered Accounts of Andean Life, to complement the Dumbarton Oaks Museum exhibition of the same name. The catalog’s graphic design was informed by the exhibit design, by Dumbarton Oaks’s design department.

CLD designed the catalog to reference the nature of the exhibition’s research — the revealing, unfolding, and unrolling of khipu (Inkan recordkeeping devices). To add an element of discovery, each of the khipus featured in the catalog could be seen in its entirety only upon unfolding a page.
